Théâtre français de Toronto & Alliance française de Toronto present MESDAMES ET MESSIEURS, GARÇONS ET FILLES, a VOX Théâtre production, at Berkeley Street Theatre, May 17-20. Written by prolific, award winning writer/drag queen Dave Deveau, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BOYS AND GIRLS is translated by Marie-Thé Morin. Acclaimed for the relevance of its subject matter and themes, this story is a sensitive examination of gender identity and the acceptance of a transgender child within his family.

THE STORY FOLLOWS 9-YEAR-OLD FINN WHO HAS COME OUT AS A BOY. After attending a fascinating circus performance, the young boy decides to cut his hair short and change his name. Finn’s family works to understand and adjust to his gender identity. Dad accepts the change right away, but Mom struggles. We see Fin’s family grapple with their child’s transition with the best of intentions and, ultimately, begin to accept and embrace Fin for who he is.

The play was nominated for three Dora Mavor Moore Awards in Toronto and seven Jessie Awards in Vancouver. It won the Jessie Award for Best Youth Production of the Year in 2022. In VOX Théâtre's production, the role of Finn is played by Lionel Lehouillier, a versatile artist whose projects explore gender identity and neurodiversity. This is the first time the play has been produced in French in Toronto.
