A Ondinnok & Théâtre de la Vieille 17 Production

Toqaq Mecimi Puwiht / Delphine rêve toujours

March 1 to 4, 2023
Duration: 50 minutes
Ages: 4 to 8 years old

WITHOUT THE BEATING OF THE DRUM, THE WORDS WILL NOT COME. Delphine is a young Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) girl, full of dreams and determination. Ever since her father lost the drum of his late muhsums, Delphine has been determined to find it at all costs. One autumn day, as the wind picks up, Delphine is transported into the world of the forest spirits. There she meets the mischievous porcupine, the opera-singing owl, and the Kiwahq, a monster with a heart of ice! Will she overcome her obstacles and find the drum?

In his play Toqaq Mecimi Puwiht / Delphine rêve toujours, Wolastoqiyik author Dave Jenniss tackles the themes of transmission and identity as he reappropriates the language of his ancestors and makes it resonate. This bilingual show, in French and Wolastoqey is performed by indigenous and non-indigenous actors.
