“Born to avenge my sex and to master yours,” La Marquise de Merteuil

Paris, 1782. Pierre Choderlos de Laclos publishes Les Liaisons dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons), a collection of letters which brings to light the decadent pleasures, unscrupulous alliances, and perverse rivalries between former lovers and expert manipulators the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont. One hundred seventy-five authentic letters revealing the correspondence of two libertines, those of their victims, and their abused witnesses.

Despite the shockwaves that this tale of seduction, libertinism, and betrayal provokes in France at the time of its publication, it becomes an immediate success. (According to rumours, even French queen Marie-Antoinette is said to have ordered her copy and concealed its cover to avoid controversy).

But when a series of unpublished letters resurface, Laclos discovers a scandalous, new tale filled with intrigue, unusual power plays, unknown plots, and surprising pacts.

Les Liaisons dangereuses : Correspondances inédites is a web series that takes a new look at the novel Les Liaisons dangereuses by Laclos.
